this might be the most under-rated show of 1985, the next night in Hersey is slopfest, perhaps hyped up because of Phil's egg frying bass notes in Morning Dew...

It's funny how much Bobby's slide playing gets knocked, hell even I get annoyed with it, but one of my first exposures to "Slide Bobby" was the Dead Ahead video, where I think his slide lead in Rooster is just about one of THE best things he's ever played. I thought he was a bad ass slide player. I've since learned otherwise lol.

I was lucky enough to be at this SPAC show in '85 and agree it is by far the best of the year (which, given what a piece of crap year '85 was, isn't saying much), but this really is a great show.

The Crazy Fingers was a delightful surprise, most of the 2nd set was both inventive and unpredictable and my favorite bit is actually the impromptu "Supplication" Jam...we kept hoping Bobby would launch into the lyrics, but it's probably better he didn't.

Now whoever was up on that balcony, step forward and reveal yourself already! All is forgiven. (Great "Stagger Lee" follows that hilarious exchange.)

You are a lucky guy. I was at the SPAC in 1988, which was also a great show, however I would trade just about any show I've ever attended for this one, although I'll have to think about the Branford show on 3-27-90. You are right about the Stagger Lee which is also one of my favorite versions. There are many songs at this concert that could qualify as top versions....Bertha, Midnight Hour (post Pig), Stagger Lee, Dont Ease, Crazy Fingers, Stranger, Supplication jam, Bucket.

Hey, I was at that Branford show, too...and honestly, having attended both--you were at the right one. SPAC '85 was terrific, but Branford simply blew me away...it was almost like seeing them in a whole new light...at least that's how I felt...I'll never forget that EYES--best I ever saw live (never having seen a '77 show...my first show was in '79).
